After a tremendous display of solidarity, we are pleased to announce that on Friday, October 16, the seventy workers at Pelican Pointe Acute Nursing & Rehabilitation voted to ratify a new union contract!
This development comes after a contentious few weeks, in which a strike vote was unanimously authorized and a ten-day work stoppage notice was given.
The company’s previous proposal would have provided for wage increases that were way below industry standards, reduced the scheduled workweek by two and one-half hours per week for many current employees, and significantly underfunded health benefits.
However, the newly ratified contract includes market-based wage increases, a ratification bonus, protected the existing employees scheduled workweek, maintains their health benefits, and more!
“What a difference a month — and the power of solidarity — can make,” said UFCW Local 152 President Ross. “The improvements secured, and the concessions that were avoided, demonstrate what is possible when members stand together, stay engaged, and make it clear they are willing to fight for a contract they deserve!”
A huge congratulations to our members at Pelican Pointe! The power of solidarity is what moved the company to negotiate fairly and agreed to provide our members a much more meaningful agreement.
