On Wednesday, September 2, forty workers at two Brown’s-owned Fresh Grocer stores ratified a new union contract! The two stores are located in Wyncote, Pennsylvania, and on Monument Avenue in Philadelphia.
In the new four-year agreement, all members received an immediate, across-the-board wage increase, with a market adjustment for department managers and classified positions. Contributions to the Retirement Savings Plan were also increased, allowing our members to anticipate a more secure and stable retirement. Health benefits were maintained for the lifetime of the agreement.
In addition to these economic achievements, new language was added for emergency preparedness, including workplace violence prevention, pandemic preparedness, and other serious safety concerns. This language will provide the union an opportunity to have ongoing discussions with the Employer to ensure our members are protected in the event of an unexpected emergency.
All members will also receive additional paid personal holidays in response to Pennsylvania’s lack of state-mandated paid sick leave. Finally, bereavement leave was expanded.
Congratulations to our members!
