Yes Union Can — And They Just Did

It’s no secret that UFCW Local 152 publicly supports the cannabis industry in New Jersey. That’s why when Yes Union Can asked UFCW Local 152 if we would publicly endorse the campaign, we jumped at the opportunity.

Yes Union Can is a campaign to get the city of Union, NJ to vote “YES” to offer adult-use cannabis if and when it becomes legal at the state level. It was one of Union’s public questions, to be voted on at the midterm election on November 6th, 2018.

From tapinto.net:

A letter to the political leadership of Union and the working class residents from Hugh Giordano, Union Representative:

“The United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) Local 152 is proud to fully endorse the public question on November 6th to ‘Permit the retail sales of Adult-Use Cannabis.’

The UFCW represents 1.4 million members across the United States and Canada.  We are proud to represent thousands of Medical and Adult-Use Cannabis workers across the Nation and provide a true Labor Union voice to all of them.

“Retail Cannabis will create hundreds of jobs in Union, and the industry could create thousands.  There is no reason that the rest of the state should benefit from the great careers and tax incentives, while the working class of Union misses out on the billion-dollar industry. Retail Cannabis jobs provide the opportunity for workers to have the UFCW career which includes education, living wage, health care, retirement, sick time, vacation, paternity leave, and the opportunity to join the rank and file of the middle class which UFCW Local 152 members enjoy.

“UFCW Local 152 hopes that the voters overwhelmingly vote YES for Adult-Use retail Cannabis, so that those who live in Union can enjoy the economic benefits that this industry brings.”

We are pleased to report that on Election Day, the city of Union voted YES. Great job Union! We hope this new opportunity helps to create many businesses and job opportunities in your city.
