Over 300 Fresh Grocer Workers Unite to Ratify New Union Contract – 4/30/2025

Fresh Grocer workers pose for a photo at the ratification meeting in 2025.

On Wednesday, April 30th, more than three hundred workers at The Fresh Grocer stores on 56th and Chestnut Street in Philadelphia and 69th Street in Upper Darby together ratified a new union contract! Congratulations!

The new four-year contract improves the lives of our members in numerous ways. Wages increased across the board for all clerks, classified positions, and department managers. The holiday pay and night shift premiums were increased. Employees choosing to waive health benefits will now have a greater payment.

To improve their work-life balance, these Fresh Grocer workers can now take vacation time in days instead of straight weeks and can work four ten-hour days if mutually agreed upon.

Finally, funeral leave was expanded and pandemic language was added to protect these essential workers.

Congratulations to these workers at Fresh Grocer! We would also like to acknowledge our union negotiating committee, including Executive Vice President Lisa Sanders, Union Representative Ed Fuller, and Shop Stewards Zakia Wilson and John Ford.
