UFCW Local 152 staff attended Ocean City, New Jersey City Council meeting on March 8th, 2018, to voice support on behalf of the cannabis industry. The meeting was later reported on an article from OCNJ Daily, and Local 152 representative Hugh Giordano was mentioned:
Hugh Giordano, a representative of Local 152 of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, told Council that a marijuana dispensary could serve Ocean City’s tourist market and also generate tax revenue.
“This is tax revenue that could go back to the town and create good jobs,” he said.
The UFCW, which represents union employees at the Acme supermarkets in Ocean City, also has medical marijuana workers in New Jersey as union members.
“It’s something we think is important to the union,” Giordano said.
On a national level, the United Food and Commercial Workers represent workers in both medical and recreational cannabis-related industries. Local 152 is committed to standing with cannabis workers to not only create good jobs, but to also represent them so that their employers pay good wages, good benefits, and fair treatment in a safe work environment.
